May Candle of the Month

My Candle of the month posts have been lacking lately.  This is partially because I’ve been busy, but mores because I really haven’t been burning candles lately.  However, I’m back this month with a real winner. Persian Lime by Henri Bendel.

A few days ago, I got together with one of my friends downtown, we had lunch and did some shopping at WaterTower place.  When I saw the Henri Bendel store, I knew I needed to stop in. Partially because my good friend Logan, you know from Sage & Serendipity had just blogged about some great jewelry pieces she saw from his line, but also because of the candles.  As I type this, I realize it might sound weird buying candles in a store that sells jewelry and purses, but I promise you these candles are amazeballs.

2014 Blogger Challenge: week 5

The fifth post for our #2014BloggerChallenge is all about nails.. and in true form, I’m fashionably late!  I haven’t really had my nails painted at all in the past month or so, they were a hot mess.  Last night I decided to quickly paint them {warning: I am not very good at painting my own nails so please don’t judge!} I wanted to do something fun for St.Patrick’s day today, but I thought going all green might be a little too daring for me, so I decided to try out something that’s been all the rage lately, a statement nail! photo I used some polish I had laying around to achieve the look Essie’s Sand Tropez and Ruffian’s Trust Fund which I had gotten a few months ago in a Birchbox.   I also used my favorite top coat by Seche Vite .

2014 Blogger Challenge: week 4

The fourth post for our #2014BloggerChallenge is high end v. high street.  If you’re reading from the US you might be scratching your head like I did when I read the prompt, because I had never heard of the term ‘high street’. Thankfully, one of the UK bloggers filled me in-  a high street is the main commercial and retail street in a town.  This got my wheels spinning and I decided I wanted to do a splurge v. steal post.  I’m comparing a new deep conditioner { It’s a 10 Miracle Hair Mask } against one that I’ve used time and time again { Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle }.

Review: Ayres Body Butter & Bar Soap

About a week and a half ago I got home from a crappy day at work to a great surprise on my doorstep. I had won a contest through Birchbox’s Birchbloggers program & Ayres Beauty and they sent me three body butters, and one bar soap to try out. In the interest of full transparency, these items below were sent to my as a result of winning the program, and I did not purchase them myself. All of my notes below are my own unique opinions.

Initial Impression:  I really liked the packaging {I totally judge books by their covers.. and products by their packages.. sorry I’m not sorry!} At first sniff I wasn’t so sure which scent I liked best because they were different.  You may be wondering what I mean by different.. I don’t mean it in a bad way, they’re just very unique.  I haven’t smelled any products really like them and it’s totally not a bad thing in fact it was refreshing.

I couldn’t wait to actually get them on my skin, one thing I’ve learned about scents is that what something smells like in the jar /bottle is not a real indicator of how it will smell on you. Naturally I lotioned up- a little on each arm and one leg.  I really liked the consistency of the product, and how it felt on my skin.  Keep in mind this is a body butter, so it’s meant to be rich, creamy, and in my opinion sit on the skin a bit before totally soaking in. It’s perfect for the wintertime, and this Chicago winter has been BRUTAL on my skin.

Smashbox Always Sharp Eyeliner & Kiehl’s Makeup Remover

I want to preface this e-mail by telling you I am the worst; I promised this last week, and I’m sorry it didn’t happen!  Today I spent some time getting ready before work so I could snap some pictures.

First up, Smashbox’s Always Sharp 3d Eyeliner I purchased this in Orchid which is a really pretty purple*.

I was at my local Ulta a few weeks ago browsing { I could seriously spend all day browsing at Ulta } and I remembered that I really needed a new purple eyeliner.  So I wandered over to the makeup section and this one caught my eye.  I liked the concept of ‘always sharp’ because I swear to you I am always losing my darn pencil sharpener.  That thing disappears for months at a time, and I’m left scratching my eyelids trying to use my liners without sharpening.  I figured, what the heck I’d give it a try.  So I played around with the colors and decided on Orchid.

January 2014 Candle of the Month

The candle of the month this January is actually one of my all time favorite candles Black Pepper Bergamot by Bath and Body Works. { I just checked their website and couldn’t find it listed, otherwise I’d share a link! } I’m hoping the lack of product on the website is not an indication that they’re discontinuing this scent because it’s amazing!

2014 Blogger Challenge: week 2

The topic for the second post of the #2014BloggerChallenge is all about skincare!  This is an especially relevant post for me since I totally revamped my skincare routine last year.  I never struggled with acne as a teenager, but last year acne became a concern of mine.. oh and aging- double whammy!

I’ve posted several times about my Clarisoninc here & here.  I think by now you probably know that I love it, and hate going without it!  It has hugely helped my skin- in fact just this week I was a little lazy two days in a row and slept with my makeup on and my skin is a HOT MESS right now.  I’m dying and I vowed I’d never skip another night of taking off my makeup again!!   I usually take off my eyemakeup with a real ‘makeup remover’ before I use the Clarisoninc, but I’m still on the hunt for a good makeup remover.  I’ve used Clinique’s Take The Day Off and Lancôme’s Bi-Facil both are just okay,  do you guys have any recommendations?

I also mentioned here how I changed up my facial wash and lotion last year.  Now I’m using the Benefit: Foamingly Clean Facial Wash with my Clarisoninc to cleanse my skin & Benefit: Triple Performing Facial Emulsion as my moisturizer.   Occasionally at night I’ll switch up my moisturizer- I have a few I’m trying to finish that I don’t love during daytime (they’re too heavy / greasy) but at night I’ll throw them on since I know I’ll just be washing my face in the morning anyways.

For daytime, most days I mix a little of my favorite CC cream Supergoop: Daily Correct CC Cream with my Benefit: Triple Performing Facial Emulsion to create my own custom blend of face moisturizer.  I like to do this because I think the CC cream alone gives me a bit more coverage than I like/need, but without it I feel like my skin is uneven.  I’m all about saving time, and by blending them together I’m killing two birds with one stone.  Here’s how I create my custom blend {it seriously couldn’t be easier}

Step 1: take both products

Step 2: squirt a little of both products onto back of hand

Step 3: blend together

Step 4: apply to face!

See I told you it was easy!!  Most days I throw on a little bronzer, mascara and I’m out the door!   In the summertime, when I’ve got a bit of a tan I don’t find it as crucial to mix in the CC cream so I just use some moisturizer and a hint of bronzer most days.
I’d love to know..
What does your wintertime routine look like?
Is it the same as your summertime routine?
Have you ever created your own custom product blend?
