Out of State Save The Dates

Earlier this month, I was talking to my mom and she asked if I was planning on sending out Save The Dates (STD’s) to our family members living out of state.  In fact, I had been planning to send them this fall after our engagement photos because I wanted to include our photos on the STD’s.   A pretty small percentage of our guest list is comprised of out of state guests, so I didn’t think it would be too big of a deal to wait to send them.  However, after talking it through we thought it might make sense to get them out sooner, rather than later for our out of state family.

I asked G what he wanted to do, if his preference was to send them to everyone now (without pictures), or to send some now (without pictures) and wait to send the others until we have our engagement photos.  We went back and forth for a few days, and finally settled on sending some now to our out of state family, so they’d have time to plan/budget/ etc..  and then send the rest once we get those pictures.   Then I hit the internet for ideas.  And let me tell you, there are so many cute STD’s right now.  Ultimately I selected about 10 designs I liked and let G have the final say.  It’s kind of funny, G has this complex about not wanting anything we do to be too ‘trendy’ and this isn’t just for the wedding- it spans into all areas of our life.  ‘Trendy’ is one of his favorite words to use, I’ll show him something, and if he doesn’t like it he’ll crinkle his nose and just say a long drawn out ‘Treeeeeeennnnddddeeeyy’.  It’s actually kind of funny how far out of his way he’ll go to be un-trendy  whereas, I’m totally fine doing what’s trendy and ‘in’.  I guess it’s true what they say about opposites attracting!

Imagine my delight, when yesterday I had a small package on my doorstep from Wedding Paper Divas – 4 days earlier than I was expecting it! I have to say, every time I’ve ordered from TinyPrints, or one of their partner brands, my shipping (and product) expectations have been exceeded!  Without further adieu, here’s the save the date magnet we created!  {please excuse the blocked out information, I gotta keep some stuff private!}

We selected the Chalkboard Floral design  in the magnet product form.  I was surprised that I got away with the chalkboard look, because I think it is technically pretty trendy right now 🙂 I think they work with our color scheme really well  They were reasonably priced, and I was very happy with the size and quality!  I can’t wait to finish up our wedding website so we can send these bad boys out!

What do you think?

Instagram Saftey Tip!

If you’re like me, you probably use Instagram somewhat regularly.  I was recently browsing through my profile, and noticed this feature called a Photo Map which as Instagram describes ‘[Allows you to] showcase where you’ve taken your photos or explore where others have taken photos on a map.  Maps take you beyond recently posted photos and let you rediscover previously Instagrammed memories…‘  Instagram goes on to describe how it works ‘When you take a photo or video while connected via Wi-Fi or 3G, your phone logs the coordinates where the photo was taken.’

Here’s a sample of the Photo Map that was created on my recent trip to Hawaii:

zoom in

On the left, you can see all of the places where I Instagrammed photos from my two most recent Hawaii trips.  I decided to see just how close Instagram would let me get to my actual location, and it was creepily close.  In the third photo (on the right) you can see I was standing on the plaza at the Pearl Harbor memorial. Just imagine if this was your neighborhood… creeepy!

Naturally, I wanted to find out how to remove this information, because as much as I love the people who follow me, I don’t want them knowing where I am at all times, or where I live.  I was happy to find it’s actually pretty easy to remove the geotagging, and disable this feature! Here’s my step by step tutorial for removing and disabling this feature.

Bridesmaid Style: Celosia Orange

This post is part of a series I’m working on where I’ll be styling a bridesmaid look to correlate with each of the Top 10 Pantone Colors for Spring 2014. Our fourth look is for Celosia Orange.  Let me tell you, finding cute orange bridesmaid dresses was not that easy of a task! When you look for orange dresses, mostly coral dresses come up. In my mind, Celosia Orange is not Coral.  I was very tempted to select a neutral dress and accessorize with Celosia Orange accents.. but I thought that was kind of cheating so orange ya glad I’m doing it the right way? (cheesy pun intended!)

Why I Will Never Again Use A Screen Protector On My Phone

I decided Monday morning I needed a new phone case. So I looked on Etsy and Amazon, and decided that I’d just go to Best Buy and actually pick out a case in person- does anyone even go to stores anymore? So I ran to Best Buy on my lunch, found a case I liked and started to leave. Then I saw the screen protectors… you know, those overpriced sheets of plastic that you can put on your phone to prevent it from getting scratched. I thought of how my last phone had gotten scratched by my keys one day {so annoying} so I decided why not get a screen protector? Better safe than sorry, right? Continue reading
