Color Combos I Love: Part Four {Our Wedding Colors}

Earlier today, I was reflecting on my favorite posts from 2013 and I realized I forgot to post the final part of my Color Combos I Love series– our wedding colors!  I’ve known these would be our wedding colors for years, long before we were engaged.  Picking them was actually quite simple; we used G’s favorite color and my favorite color…. Green & Purple.  Our color scheme has slightly evolved; it will be purples and green with black and/or champagne accents.

These aren’t the exact colors we’ll probably end up using, but rather general idea of what I’m going for.

Top 2013 Posts

Hard to believe 2013 is coming to a close, it’s been quite the year.  As I continue on my journey of reflection, I thought it would be fun to review my top 5 posts this year according to WordPress…

5: Bride Apparel I showcased a few of my favorite ‘bride’ items to wear while engaged/on a honeymoon.

4: Wedding Tool: ColorScope I stumbled upon this fun tool by Paper Source and thought it was too neat not to share.  Basically, you can look up your wedding colors and the color scope will tell you what kind of person you are.

3: Bridesmaid Looks I’m Loving this was one of my favorite posts to write, I had been looking at all sorts of bridesmaid dresses all day and pinning up a storm to my secret board!  I had fun sharing the looks I’m loving with you guys, I’m really excited to officially ask my bridesmaids, so we can start actually looking and trying things on!!

2: Color Combos I Love: Part One {Pink, Gold, & Coral} This was another fun post to write, in fact I loved writing each of my CCIL (Color Combos I Love) posts, but boy they take work!  I owe you all part four, which is where I reveal our colors..  It should be posted soon!  If you’re looking for some wedding inspiration you might also want to check out part two & three .

1: My most popular post of 2013 was Urban Decay: Naked 3 Palette  I have a fun follow up planned, showcasing some of my favorite colors from the N3 Palette and how I plan to use them.  I should have posted later this week!

Those are the posts that the masses liked most, however my favorites were a little bit different.   I probably had the most fun writing Overanalyzing the Art of Hugging it was a lighthearted post that I think pretty accurately showcases my craziness.  Setting the Date, The Proposal, and Our Venue were also high on my list because they were big milestones for us in 2013!

Did your favorite post make the list?

Favorite Beauty Products of 2013

As 2013 comes to a close, I’m doing a lot of reflecting. I thought it would be fun to share what my favorite skincare and makeup products from this year are!

First up, skincare. My skin totally changed this year, what used to work for stopped working. I was on a quest to find a new skincare regimen that would give me clean skin that looked healthy. After kissing a lot of frogs, I’ve finally found a few new products that are working well for me right now:

1: Benefit: Triple Performing Facial Emulsion I love this moisturizer; it’s lightweight but really moisturizes skin.  I like to mix this with my favorite CC cream (more on that in a second) and apply after washing for just the right amount of moisture and coverage.

2: Benefit: Foamingly Clean Facial Wash I use this face wash every morning and night.  I think it does a great job removing my makeup  (just not eye makeup– I use a real makeup remover for that)  I love that I can use it with, or without the Mia.  I also like that it’s not super drying.  Much like the lotion it has a fresh, clean scent that is pleasant but not overpowering.

3.  Clarisonic: Mia 2 I did a post when I first bought the Mia 2, I had debated for months if I should invest or not but now that it’s been a few months I am SO glad that I did.  I feel lost without this thing; last month when we were in Germany I forgot to bring this and the entire week I felt just gross.  One of the first things I did when I got home was wash my face, it felt so good!  Clarisonic recommends replacing the brush head every three months or so, I started with the Acne brush head which I read good things about because its gentle on the skin.  A few weeks ago, I decided to pick up a new head and went with the Deep Pore brush head, and it’s working just as well!  This was probably the best beauty purchase I made in 2013!

Now for the fun stuff, my favorite makeup items from 2013:

Five on Friday – 12.27.13

Happy Friday everyone!  I can’t believe this is the last Friday in 2013! In honor of the occasion, I’m linking up with Darci, April, Christina and Natasha for Five on Friday..

I can’t believe Christmas is over!  We hosted our annual Christmas Eve dinner again this year.  We usually just have our immediate families over, but last year my mom’s family was in town so we invited them- this year to keep things fair we invited G’s extended family.  It was an interesting night!  I made my usual lasagna, G made his Mac n’ cheese; it was basically carb city.  YOLO.. right?!

I’ve already started goal setting for 2014.. personally, professionally, and for the blog!  It’s time to really buckle down and start making progress towards achieving some of my goals.  I’ll be sharing most of my goals, and some of my methods for taking BIG goals and breaking them down to make them attainable in the next few days- so stay tuned!

I got some our photos from Germany printed, and I blew up this one to 8×10 and I was pretty pleased with how it came out!  I’ve decided that I should probably invest in a better camera, because I think some of my shots turned out just okay.. but with the right camera and lens, they could have been really breathtaking.

I got some Nordstrom gift cards for Christmas and they are burning a hole in my pocket;  there were a few things on my wishlist that Santa forgot so these will be perfect for picking them up!  My parents got me the Naked3 Palette and I’m excited to really start playing around with it.  G got me a Kindle Paperwhite and a nice leather case, and it’s AWESOME!  I have an Amazon Prime membership, so I really like that I can borrow books digitally for free (like a library!) I started by borrowing Raise the Bar by Jon Taffer- have you seen his show Bar Rescue? G and I love it.  His book is really a nice read, and even though I’m not in the bar/restaurant business I feel like many of the concepts are applicable to most businesses.

As we move into 2014, I’m ready to take wedding planning off the back burner and get back to planning!  Our next big thing to nail down is a DJ.  I also have a few items I’ve favorited on Etsy that I’m ready to pull the trigger on!  I can’t believe that we’re only 18 months out!  I have a feeling the next 18 months are going to f l y by

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend – the last one of 2013!!

Christmas 2013

We hosted our annual Christmas Eve dinner tonight. It was a great time with both of our families. Tomorrow we will have a low key morning, then we will make the rounds for Christmas dinner. We’re so lucky to have parents that live blocks apart, it makes sharing the holidays so much easier.

I hope no matter what your plans are for tomorrow, you have a blessed and special day!

Merry Christmas

2nd Annual Favorite Things Party

Earlier this month, I hosted my 2nd annual favorite things party!1000456_10100852045975135_1931054866_n Of course, I managed to take no pictures of the setup or anything—hopefully I’ll remember to next year.   The concept is simple, every guest has to choose one item to be their favorite thing.  I set some guidelines this year to keep things consistent:

  • Had to be new with tags/gift receipt
  • Had to be store-bought
  • It needed to cost at least $10

So everyone picked a favorite thing, and then they had to buy and bring 3 of them to the party.

Tip: Last year I asked everyone to bring five items costing $6, however we thought that $10 was a better price point because it can be hard to find something nice for $6.  You can set your price point and item limit at whatever you want though!

This year, for my favorite thing I picked one of my favorite winter  candles from Bath and Body Works, the Fresh Balsam 3-wick.  I was able to plan ahead and pick them up when they went on sale 2 for $22.
