The Proposal

This past May we decided to take a trip to celebrate our 10 year dating anniversary. We chose to go to Cozumel and stay at the newly rebranded Secrets Aura.

We had a great week of fun in the sun, and lots of time to relax and recharge. We spent most of our days at the pool enjoying fruity drinks, making friends, and working on our tans.

In the evenings, it was nice to walk down on the beach and watch the sun set. They were picturesque.

Setting the Date

For the longest time, people would ask us ‘when are you getting engaged?’ It comes with the territory when you’ve been dating FOR-EV-ER.  Once we shared the news of our engagement it took seconds for the first person to ask  ‘when’s the wedding?!?’  For us, picking a date ended up actually being pretty easy.

I can’t believe it’s the last week of July; in fact, I’m kind of depressed about it.  This has been one of the best summers I’ve had in quite some time. It seems like every weekend we’ve had at least one fun thing going on.

This upcoming weekend is no exception.  Friday night we’re having our engagement party. I’m really looking forward to celebrating our engagement with our friends & family.   I thought it would be fun to incorporate a fiesta theme to our party, especially for the food.  We both love Mexican food, and it’s a nice way to pay homage to the country where we got engaged!  The next day, we will be celebrating my sister’s graduation from U of I.  It’s definitely going to be a party weekend…  I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Mother Nature will cooperate.

Wedding Pinspiration

I wanted to take some time today to share some of my wedding inspiration, courtesy of Pinterest. I’ve been pinning things to my wedding boards since long before we got engaged.

1.) If you’ve been to our home, you probably noticed that I LOVE candles. I blame all the years I spent working at Bath and Body Works for fueling this addiction. I have candles in almost every room of our house. Naturally, I’m envisioning candles as part of our tablescapes. I’m sure they’ll bring a nice glow and ambiance to our reception.

2.) I’ve never really understood the point of a guest book. What do people do with them after their wedding anyways? I’ve seen some cute alternatives to a guest book, but when I came across the fingerprint tree I fell in LOVE. This will become a piece of unique art that we will keep in our home for years to come. I think in addition to the fingerprints, I’d like people to sign their names as well.

This is my first blog post, ever!  I’ve been wanting to start a blog for a while now, and I thought now was as good a time as any to give it a go.   My vision is to use this to document my planning of our upcoming wedding (more to come on that, I promise!) and also to share what I’m up to these days.   Hope you’ll enjoy what’s to come.
